Renumbering Prescriptions

From QuickSCRIP Wiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search

There are many circumstances where you may wish to keep the data from a prescription, but assign it a new RX number. This can be useful for scrips that are out of refills but have been renewed by a doctor, or in situations where an insurance has locked out a scrip for too many rejections.

Renumbering a Scrip

Renumbering a prescription is straightforward.

  1. Start in the Rx Processing Menu
  2. Choose Option 1 Rx Fill / Refill screen
  3. On line 1, you can Search for a prescription either by Rx number, or through the customer's history
  4. At the bottom of the screen, there is an R for Renumber

By default, QuickSCRIP will copy ALL information from the original scrip to the newly renumbered scrip. This includes patient info, doctor and supervisor (if any), and drug info. We do NOT carry over communication SIG notations (/FAX, /SURERX, /XFER) which note when refill requests have been sent to the doctor.

QuickSCRIP offers several settings which allows you to customize how it handles renumberings (see below).

EDIT Screen

While the EDIT screen (Rx Processing menu, Option 6) does not allow you renumber a prescription, we display scrip data here that can be useful for tracking the original prescription.

If a prescription has been renumbered, we will display the old rx number on Line 3 along with the original date of the prescription on Line 2.

Additional Settings and Options

The following settings can impact how QuickSCRIP behaves when you renumber a prescription. Most of these changes will be made in the Business Control File screen (shortened to BCFM for the rest of this guide).

  1. Start in the Pharmacy Main Menu
  2. Choose Option 3 Utilities
  3. Then Choose Option 3 Business Control File

QuickSCRIP can be set to disable the renumbering feature entirely.

  1. In the BCFM, choose Option 6 Additional Rx Custom Screen #3
  2. Line 9 Allow Rx Renumbering
    • Y will enable the renumbering feature (this is on by default)
    • N prevents prescriptions from being renumbered. Note, this will require prescriptions for the same drug and patient to be renetered from scratch.

Warnings and Alerts

QuickSCRIP can Warn if the NDC has changed from the original scrip to the renumbered one.

  1. BCFM, Option 2 Rx Dispensing Customizing
  2. Line 37
    • Y QuickSCRIP will warn the user of NDC differences between renumberings.
    • O same as Y, but requires user to type OK before proceeding.
    • N Ignores NDC differences.

Forced Stops

Instead of copying all the info from the previous prescription, QuickSCRIP can be forced to stop at certain lines in the RXFILL screen and allow the user a chance to modify the prescriptions information.

Stop on Doctor Line

  1. BCFM, Option 6 Additional Rx Custom Screen 3
  2. Line 15 Get Doctor on renumbered scrip?
    • N QuickSCRIP will copy the doctor from the original scrip.
    • Y QuickSCRIP will stop at the doctor line and allow the user to change the doctor for the renumbered scrip.

Stop on the Refill line

  1. BCFM, Option 6 Additional Rx Custom Screen #3
  2. Line 11 On Renumber get # refs
    • N Skips this line and copies the refill number from the original scrip.
    • Y will cause QuickSCRIP to ALWAYS stop at the refill line whenever you renumber a prescription. Defaults to 0.
    • X functions the same as Y, but defaults to the number of the original scrip.

Stop on SIG Line

  • Will stop at the SIG line during the fill process, allowing the user to change directions if desired. By default, we copy this from the original scrip.
  • This feature is available upon request. Please contact Cost Effective Computers, Inc. at (866) 529-6091 if you are interested.

Stop on Quantity Line

  • Will stop at the Quantity line during the fill process, allowing the user to change that value if desired. By default, we copy this from the original scrip.
  • This feature is available upon request. Please contact Cost Effective Computers, Inc. at (866) 529-6091 if you are interested.

Misc

QuickSCRIP can carry Rx Notes over from the original scrip to the renumbered one.

  1. BCFM, Option 6 Additional Rx Custom Screen #3
  2. Line 26 RXFILL: Copy Notes on RENUM
    • Y will copy any Rx notes made on the F11 Notes screen for this RX.
    • N will NOT copy any notes, leaving the F11 notes screen for the renumbered scrip blank.

QuickSCRIP can prompt the user for the original date for the scrip on renumberings.

  1. BCFM, Option 5 Additional Rx Custom Screen #2
  2. Line 10, Get Original Rx Date
    • Option R will prompt the user for the original date on renumberings. Otherwise, QuickSCRIP will copy the date from the original scrip.

  2. Line 21 Get RX origin
    • R asks for the origin code on renumbered scrips. On any other option, QuickSCRIP copies the code from the original scrip.
