One of the most important features in any pharmacy software is the ability to detect potential issues with patients and their medications. QuickSCRIP draws upon electronic drug databases and user-maintained records to alert the user when negative interactions occur. The following is a master post that will direct you to specific alert and interaction features in the QuickSCRIP system.

In order for QuickSCRIP to function best for you, it is vitally important that your drug databases have the most recent NDC numbers, and that your software be updated to the most recent Medi-Span records (more information on this below).

QuickSCRIP makes use of the Wolters Kluwer Medi-Span drug database for pill images, monographs, and drug interaction detection. Click here to visit the Medis-Span website for more information.

Due to the size of this database, Cost Effective Computers issues a quarterly update CD via mail to its customers. Please contact us if you do not regularly receive the CD, so we can update our shipping information.

Additionally, the database can be downloaded and installed by a CECS Help Desk Representative. This process can take 10-30 minutes to download and install depending on your computer and internet speeds. You can verify that you are on the most recent Medi-Span data by checking the expiration dates in the Business Control File.

  1. Start in the Pharmacy Main Menu
  2. Select Option 3 Utilities
  3. Select Option 3 Business Control File
  4. Select Screen 10 Medispan Drug Customization
  5. Lines 35 through 43 will have the expiration dates for your Medi-Span data.

If your Medi-Span data has expired, QuickSCRIP will alert you when you log into a data group from the Master Menu.

Drug Interactions and Therapeutic Duplication

QuickSCRIP offers the ability to cross reference prescriptions and alert the user to possible drug interactions and therapeutic duplication conflicts during the filling process. These alerts can be customized to only appear at certain severity levels and can be set to only be bypassed with passwords.

It is highly recommended that users review their software settings and ensure they meet state and federal guidelines. Click here to learn more.

Custom Text Alerts

In addition to the alerts listed above, users have to option to set customized text alerts that will appear during the fill process and require input to continue. These can serve as reminders and notes that you need your techs to see.
