The Transaction Code and Transaction Count fields (A3-103 and A9-109 respectively) alert the insurance provider to the number of claims being sent in a transmission.

Transaction Code

This defaults to B1, and almost never needs to be changed.

Transaction Count

This indicates the number of claims in the transmission. Typically, a user will send 1 claim per electronic transmission; however, QuickSCRIP supports the ability to batch up to 4 claims in a single transmission. Please note that some insurance companies do not allow batched claims.

Group Separator

Field GS-029 appears in conjunction with the above fields whenever more than one claim is sent in a batch. This field appears between claims to indicate the end of one and the beginning of another.
