The Processor Control Number (referred to as a PCN) works in conjunction with the Insurance BIN number to determine where an electronic claim is transmitted by the switch. While a BIN number identifies an insurance provider, a PCN differentiates between various plans and benefit packages offered by the provider.

The PCN is transmitted in field A4-104.

By default, QuickSCRIP takes this from the Insurance Vendor File Maintenance database, screen 3, line 18. The following commands also influence this field:

  • /PCN in Patient 3rd Party Notes can override the Insurance Vendor File
  • /GP (Insurance FM, Screen 3, Line 16) can send the group number in the PCN field
  • Older transmission formats used to append HCL to the end of the PCN. This has since been disabled.
