The Rx Origin Code designates what method the doctor used to send the prescription to the pharmacy. This code is transmitted in field DJ-419. This field is mandatory for many insurances, particularly Medco and Med Impact.

Origin Codes

Code Description
0 Not Known
1 or W Written
2 of T Telephone
3 or L Electronic
4 or F Facsimile

Note: A value of 0 is only acceptable on transferred and refilled prescriptions where you cannot determine how the prescription was initially received.

Settings for the Origin Code

We now send the Rx Origin field by default, so there is no setting needed to tell QuickSCRIP to transmit it.

We default the Origin Code to L for Electronic on ALL Surescrips/E-prescribing claims. This overrides any custom settings.

RXFILL and EDIT Screens

In the RXFILL screen, you can set the RX Origin Code on line 46.
In the EDIT screen, you can type OR to view or change the Origin Code.

These Commands can be entered into the SIG lines in the RXFILL and EDIT Screens.

  • /PHON sends code 02
  • /TELE sends code 02
  • /ERX sends code 03
  • /FAX sends code 04

Insurance Vendor File

Note: These changes will only impact the specific insurance you are editing.

On the Insurance Vendor File, Screen 1, Line 20, you can add:

  • /OR Asks you for the Rx Origin on new scrips
